F. David Barranco, MD
Igor Barani, MD
This course, which has been accredited by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) for Self-Assessment Module (SAM) maintenance of certification credit for both physicians and medical physicists, is available from August 5, 2019, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on August 4, 2022.
In order to earn credit for this course, participants must:
Learners must listen to each self-directed audio recording while following along with the visual slides.
Pass the post-test with a score of 75% or higher.
Complete an evaluation form to receive a certificate of completion.
Participate in the entire activity as partial credit is not available.
If you are seeking continuing education credit for a specialty not listed below, it is your responsibility to contact your licensing/certification board to determine course eligibility for your licensing/certification requirement.
According to the American Brain Tumor Association, when radiation is used to treat brain tumors, the goal is to kill the tumor cells, or at least slow or stop tumor growth, while limiting adverse effects on normal tissue. Radiosurgery (SRS) focuses radiation beams closer to the tumor than conventional external beam radiation and it is used for treating well-defined targets that do not overlap with the normal brain tissue. The technologies used for SRS are the Gamma-Knife which uses gamma rays, Linear accelerators (LINAC and CyberKnife) which use photons and Proton accelerator which uses protons aimed at the target tissue. The problem has been not only the cost of the machines but also, the cost of the radiation treatment vaults that must be built to house them in order to shield the medical team delivering the treatment from the radiation being delivered. ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery eliminates the additional cost of these treatment vaults by providing a self-sheilded linac based machine making radiosurgery delivery feasible at satellite facilities, physician offices, ambulatory surgical centers and even remote locations.
This program is designed to meet the needs of radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, medical physicists, residents-in-training and healthcare professionals with interest in learning about the experience and rationale for the use of SRS in the treatment of malignant and benign brain and spinal tumors in a novel setting.
Provide an overview of the ZAP-X self-shielded radiosurgery platform.
Discuss initial clinical experience with ZAP-X including workflow, treatment planning and treatment delivery.
Review case-based examples of initial treatments.
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Amedco LLC and the Radiosurgery Society. Amedco LLC is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Credit Designation Statement
Amedco LLC designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for physicians. Learners should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
American Board of Radiology SA-CME Self-Assessment Credit
The Radiosurgery Society Self-Assessment Module (SAM) titled SRS without the Bunker is qualified by the American Board of Radiology in meeting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfilling requirements in the ABR Maintenance of Certification Program and has been qualified for 1.0 SAM credits. The ABR qualified this SAM on August 5, 2019.
Physicists: Please note that AMA Category 1 CE offerings count towards ARB-MOC credits. The Radiosurgery Society does not offer CAMPEP credit for our Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs).

A browser version of Internet Explorer 10.0 and higher or Firefox 3.0 or higher, Google Chrome Version 35 or higher.
A note on browser incompatibility:
We have tested IE 6.x in controlled configurations and we can stream successfully, but there are some versions that may not support the RTMP streams we push out - basically new technology that old technology can't handle.
Possible remedy: upgrade browser version, try alternate browsers such as Firefox.
Flash Player Version 11 or higher. If you have an older version it would be best to upgrade now. It's free and does not require a reboot. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
