2021 Newly Elected RSS Board of Directors, Officers and Physics Committee Members

The RSS Board of Directors are elected by the RSS Membership. Thank you to the candidates that ran for office and the RSS members that voted in the 2021 Elections.

2021 Elected RSS Board of Directors

The Radiosurgery Society® (RSS) is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has elected Najeeb Mohideen, MD, FRCR, FASTRO, FACR, as President of the RSS Board of Directors effective April 1, 2021. Iris C. Gibbs, MD, FASTRO, FACR, will transition from President to Chairwoman. The Board of Directors elected Michael Schulder, MD, FAANS, as Secretary.

We are also pleased to announce that the RSS Membership re-elected Shalom Kalnicki, MD, FACRO, FASTRO, to the RSS Board of Directors and elected Percy Lee, MD, as the newest Board Member.

Dr. Najeeb Mohideen is a radiation oncologist at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He is a champion for innovation and a recognized leader in the study and technological advancements of radiation oncology. Dr. Mohideen held the position of RSS BOD Secretary from 2016-2021 and as of April 1, 2021, serves as President of the RSS BOD. He has held many national leadership positions in radiation oncology including Board of Directors of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), Chair of ASTRO’s Health Policy Council, Chair of ASTRO’s Payment Reform Workgroup, and Chair of the Radiation Oncology Economics Committee for the American College of Radiology. He has served on an Image Guided Radiotherapy Task Force and Brain Metastases Guideline Committee. He is also currently a member on the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) and Fellow of the American Society of Radiation Oncology and the American College of Radiology.

The field of stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SRS/SBRT) has always been on the forefront of technological advancement and continues to evolve to provide the highest standards for radiation oncology treatments for patients. RSS members continue to contribute to improvements in SRS/SBRT technology, safety and patient care, and the RSS supports this mission by providing the global community with resources to educate, conduct research and advance the science and clinical practice of SRS/SBRT,” commented Dr. Najeeb Mohideen.

2021 Physics Committee Elections

2021 New Physics Committee Officers & Members

The RSS Physics Committee elected Brian Wang, PhD, as RSS Physics Committee Chairman and Christoph Furweger, PhD as Vice-Chairman effective April 1, 2021.

In recent months, the Physics Committee elected 3 new members: Minsun Kim, PhD, Matthew Podgorsak, PhD, and Winston “Ning” Wen, PhD. Effective April 1, 2021, Jun Yang, PhD, will move from Physics Chairman to an Advisory Member.

Brian Wang received his PhD in nuclear engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2005 and privatim BA from Yale University in 2019. He worked as a faculty medical physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Cooper University Hospital from 2005 to 2007, where he received his clinical training. He joined the University of Utah as an assistant professor in 2007, where he specialized in LINAC-based stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Brian moved to University of Louisville in 2013 to lead the physic team. In 2019, Brian became the Director of Radiation Oncology Physics at Yale New Haven Hospital, leading all the physics, dosimetry, and engineering teams. He is a Fellow of AAPM and an oral board examiner for ABR. Brian is on the presidential chain of NACMPA and a board member of SANTRO. Brian joined the RSS Physics Committee in 2012.

The RSS Physics Committee has medical physics experts specializing in all the major SRS/SBRT technologies. Our committee represents the RSS physics members of the global SRS/SBRT community to advance the science, set the clinical standard, and educate the public in the stereotactic physics specialty," stated Dr. Brian Wang.
